Saturday saw us up on the ranges for our recce runs and a 1st taste of what was in store for Sunday, followed by a trouble free Scrutineering and signing on.

Sunday dawned dry and bright although there was still some dampness on the ranges so we elected forego the slicks and play safe.

We had a steady run through the 1st 2 stages and Niki decided to keep the same tyres for the long one as there was still some damp patches and mud about.

The tyres went off after 12 miles causing us to have a slight moment and the car started loosing power to boot and missfiring so we lost a load of time, but fortunately for us the other N1 went off then on regaining the tar did his cambelt so all we had to do was get round the next 7 stages in one piece.

At service we changed to slicks and also changed coil packs and plugs to see if this would cure the missfire.

The car was fine on the next 2 short stages but towards the end of the long stage the missfire returned .. just when it was all steep uphill.. so more time was lost.

After the next service we ran the last loop in reverse and although the missfire returned on the long one there was not so much uphill at the end but it did persist throught the 2 shorter ones to follow.

We were still going with one longer stage to go so decided to take it easy for the 1st few miles to keep the engine cooler and hope we would make it through.. this had seemed to work until the final mile went the missfire returned but the car made it through the flying finish to stall on the stop line.
It needed a wee rest before it would fire up again so we could complete the road section back to Llandovery.

It was a fantastic weekend with 1st N1 and 55th O/A and maximum championship points

Niki and Peter are now leading the N1 Class in The MSA National Asphalt Championship

I would just like to thank our sponsors for the Year, Competition Car Insurance and UPOL Car Refinishing Products without who's support this would not be possible and also Max, John, Graham and Andy who gave up their time to service and look after us on the day.

It would now appear that the loss of power and missfire were caused by sticking valves so the guides will be getting reamed before the Jim Clark which should cure the problem that has plagued this car since it was built.
